The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Kano central senatorial district in the 2023 election, Abdulsalam Abdulkarim Zaura, said his party will emerge victorious if fresh elections are conducted in the state.

Zaura said no party can defeat APC in Kano again because voters, who were hoodwinked into voting for the opposition New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), have realised their mistakes and are already regretting their actions.

APC lost the presidential, governorship and many national and state legislative seats to the newly formed NNPP during the last general election.

But speaking with journalists in Abuja, the APC senatorial candidate said the consequences of currency swap and the fuel scarcity were responsible for the party’s poor performance in the North-western state during the 2023 general election.

He said the hardship imposed on the people by those policies of the APC-led government pitched them against the ruling party, a situation which the NNPP benefitted from, Zaura said.

Citing the Naira swap policy for the APC’s poor performance, he said “The Central Bank changed the colour of Naira. And when they changed Naira, there was no availability of the Naira.

“You have N100, 000 or N20,000 in your account and you cannot get access to N1 or N100 to eat.

“You defaced money and you put people in serious hardship and you expect them to go for the same party? At that same time, people slept in petrol stations and near ATM machines just to get money. And then the opposition will come out and tell them this is APC. Do you still want to vote for APC? No.

“You don’t expect to win elections with such calamity coming after you. You don’t expect when you have already built and someone from nowhere comes and destroys it over night and imposes hardship on people, putting them into terrible situations.

He however said, “I can tell you still in Kano, if you go out tomorrow cast vote in Kano APC will emerge winner. No party will beat APC. Now the people have realised that something happened. Some don’t know what they did until after the declaration.

“Those were the terrible things that happened to the APC in Kano. And that arrangement was not aimed at Kano, it was aimed at Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to win the election. They changed the Naira because they said Asiwaju kept a lot of money and he will not have money and he will not even win the election. God’s willing today we have the centre. Asiwaju is the President, where are they?” he said.
