The Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) has donated a N250 million administrative block to the College of Health Sciences of Usmanu Danfodiyo University (UDUS), Sokoto.
The facility, named Abdul Samad Rabiu Admin Block, was commissioned on Tuesday at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH) complex in Sokoto.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Bashir Garba, described the donation as a significant intervention that would strengthen the institution’s infrastructure and support medical education.
Garba said the facility had contributed to the university’s infrastructure requirements during the Medical and Dental Council’s accreditation exercise.
He assured ASR Africa and its chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu, that the university would make effective use of the facility.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ASR Africa, Dr Ubon Udoh, said the project was part of the initiative’s grant scheme, which covers 30 universities across Nigeria.
He said UDUS scored highly in the initiative’s assessment process, adding that ASR Africa looked forward to stronger partnerships with the university.
According to him, the project reflects the initiative’s commitment to supporting sustainable development in the health, education and social development sectors.
The administrative block comprises 20 staff offices, including the departmental head’s office, a panel room, staff conveniences, and storage facilities.
The facility is expected to provide additional workspace for teaching and research activities.
ASR Africa was established in 2021 by the Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, to provide sustainable, locally driven solutions to development challenges in health, education and social development across Africa.
