Plateau State’s Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has officially signed the state’s 2024 budget of N314.8 billion into law, as confirmed by his media aide, Mr Gyang Bere, in Jos on Wednesday.
The newly enacted budget demonstrates a substantial increase of N164.9 billion compared to the N149.9 billion budgeted in the previous year of 2023. This year’s budget, dubbed “Budget of New Beginnings,” allocates N162.3 billion to recurrent expenditures and N152.5 billion to capital expenditures.
Governor Mutfwang stressed the significance of the budget, describing it as a blueprint for transforming Plateau into a beacon of progress. He expressed his administration’s commitment to revamping critical sectors that had been neglected, aiming to establish a sturdy foundation for a sustainable and promising future.
“This budget represents a significant stride towards holistic development across all sectors,” Governor Mutfwang asserted, expressing his belief that the budget’s implementation would elevate the living standards of Plateau’s citizens.
He called upon the populace to lend their support to the government’s initiatives, underscoring the importance of collective efforts for sustained progress and development in the state.
During the ceremony, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr Chrysanthus Dawam, highlighted that the government initially proposed a budget of N295.5 billion for 2024. However, following deliberations, the House of Assembly increased the budget size to ₦314.8 billion.
Dawam outlined the sources of funding for the budget, which include Internally Generated Revenue of N38.3 billion, Federal Government allocation of N151.4 billion, and Capital Receipts of N60.2 billion, among other revenue streams.
The enactment of the 2024 budget sets the stage for a renewed focus on development initiatives, signalling the state government’s unwavering commitment to uplifting Plateau’s socio-economic landscape.
