Taraba Police Kill 3, Lose Officer To Rescue Abducted Victims

The Taraba State Police Command has reported a successful operation resulting in the neutralisation of three bandits and the rescue of several abducted individuals, amidst the loss of an assistant superintendent of police during the exchange.

According to Usman Abdullahi, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), the operation aimed to rescue 23 people who were kidnapped on Tuesday in Pupule, Yoro Local Government Area.

The gunfight, which ensued during the rescue attempt, led to the death of ASP Aminu Nuhu, a police officer engaged in the operation.

Abdullahi noted that the intense exchange of gunfire took place in a mountainous area within Yoro LGA, a suspected hideout of the bandits. While three bandits were neutralised, several others sustained gunshot wounds and managed to escape.

Additionally, four bandits were apprehended by the police during the operation.

“The rescue operation is being conducted by the command’s anti-kidnapping squad,” the PPRO stated.

Taraba State Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas has urged security agencies to expedite the rescue of the abducted individuals.

Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communications, Hon. Emmanuel Bello, the governor, expressed condolences to the deceased officer’s family and pledged continuous support to the police in eradicating criminal activities in the state.

LEADERSHIP had earlier reported that a group of more than 20 armed bandits invaded the Pupule community in Yoro LGA on Tuesday, kidnapping over 23 individuals, including two police officers, a pregnant woman, and a second-class chief, to an unknown location.
