In a statement signed by the State Police Commissioner, CP Augustina Ogbodo, and made available to LEADERSHIP Weekend, the command highlighted the dislodgment of criminals from multiple hideouts across the state.

CP Ogbodo noted that since assuming office in July 2023, the command has received over 300 reported cases. Out of these, 140 cases have been prosecuted, and 187 suspects were charged to court.

“15 accused persons have been convicted. We’ve successfully recovered more than 12 stolen vehicles, along with 20 assorted firearms and 350 rounds of ammunition of different calibres,” she stated.

The Commissioner remarked that crime and criminality have significantly decreased in the state during the review period, highlighting the command’s significant strides and numerous accomplishments.

She commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for providing her with the opportunity to serve the state in her capacity as CP.

“I must also commend sister security agencies whose cooperation has contributed to the Command’s achievements; the collaboration among us will be sustained.

“I extend my gratitude to the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru, for creating an enabling environment for us to carry out our duties as mandated by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

She indicated that under her leadership, the command has devised strategies to ensure smooth and safe Christmas and New Year celebrations.

CP Ogbodo urged citizens to carry out their lawful duties and businesses without fear and to relish the festive seasons.

“Furthermore,” CP Ogbodo urged citizens to keep in mind the following security tips: “Firecrackers are banned in all Local Government Areas of the State. Before sleeping or leaving your home, ensure to check your doors and windows.

“Other security tips include: knowing the numbers of your Area Commander/DPOs in your locality, avoiding drinking and driving, always using your seatbelt, informing relatives about your movements, refraining from disclosing your one-time password (OTP) to anyone, keeping your phone charged, ensuring your car/motorcycle has enough fuel for emergencies, and immediately reporting any security breach to the nearest police station.”
