Remitly, a US-based money transfer company, is seeking the patronage of Nigerians living in the U.S. to bolster its business. Mohammed Mardah, the director of Remitly, said this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in New York. He also urged for stronger partnerships with Nigerian community associations.

Mardah said that the company was established to address the money transfer requirements of Nigerians in the diaspora, including the African diaspora and the immigrant population in the U.S. Remitly, headquartered in Seattle, United States, operates as an online remittance service providing international money transfers to over 159 countries, including Nigeria.

Expressing the company’s commitment to supporting cultural events organised by Nigerian associations, particularly the Independence Day parade and carnival, Mardah emphasised the significance of Nigerian patronage. He noted that Remitly has consistently backed Nigerian Independence Day events for a decade and encouraged Nigerians to utilise their services, assuring continued support for the Nigerian community, both in the diaspora and back home in Africa.

Stressing Nigeria’s status as one of Africa’s largest economies and a pivotal market for Remitly, Mardah stressed the importance of partnership and collaboration with the Nigerian community in the U.S. He underscored the company’s foundation on community support and the significance of supporting events organised by these communities.

Discussing the company’s origins, Mardah mentioned that it was founded by an African individual (a Kenyan) who aimed to reinvest in Africa. He noted Remitly’s dedication to reinvesting in communities and supporting events in African communities across the diaspora.
