The Etsu Nupe and chairman Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, has emphasised the need for Nupes at home and in the diaspora to be united, saying that only those that contribute to the development of the society will be honoured.

The monarch stated this when he received some notable sons of the Emirate who were recently given traditional titles at Wadata Palace in Bida, Niger State yesterday.

He admonished those that were given traditional titles to make meaningful investments in Nupe kingdom with the view to boosting the development of the area, Niger State and Nigeria in general.

The royal father counseled his subjects against disunity, pointing out that it is a retrogressive force against the efforts to ensure development.

Abubakar also challenged wealthy sons of the emirate, especially those in the diaspora, to return home and establish industries at home to facilitate the socio-economic development of the area.

He said more investments and the establishment of industries would help in reducing the rising unemployment rates and biting poverty in the country.
The Etsu Nupe attributed most of the problems affecting Nigeria, like insecurity and youth’s restiveness to unemployment and poverty.

“Those that are given traditional titles are people of proven integrity who show concern to the development and socio-economic well-being of the emirate,” he noted.

In his response, on behalf of the new title holders, AIG Umar Abubakar-Manko (rtd), a former “Wucinbe Nupe” elevated to “Giyan Nupe” promised that they would not fail the Etsu Nupe, Bida Emirate and Niger State in the discharge of their responsibilities.

Giyan Nupe commended the Etsu Nupe for bestowing the honour on them, promising that they would do everything humanly possible to bolster the development of Nupe kingdom, Niger State and Nigeria as a whole.
