Governor Inuwa Pardons 39 Inmates, Shares Palliatives Today

In the spirit of the New Year celebration, governor of Gombe State, Inuwa Yahaya, has granted state pardon to 39 inmates serving various jail terms in the correctional centres.
The governor announced the state pardon for the inmates in his broadcast yesterday to mark the New Year 2024.

He said it was based on the recommendations of the State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy.
Inuwa said, “I have granted clemency to 39 convicted inmates in our custodial centres, of which 26 get unconditional pardon while the remaining 13 have their sentences commuted to shorter periods.

“It is our hope that the beneficiaries will turn a new leaf and use this opportunity for a fresh start.”
Meanwhile, the governor has said the state government would commence the distribution of the second phase of palliatives to about 90,000 residents to ameliorate the effects of the fuel subsidy removal.

Governor Inuwa said the first phase launched in August 2023 targeted 420,000 poor and vulnerable people.
“Tomorrow (today), we are rolling out the second phase of our palliative food distribution programme, targeting about 90,000 beneficiaries across the state. Already a committee has been set up under the chairmanship of the deputy governor, with representations from various stakeholders to take charge of this responsibility,” he said.
