Sports Ministry To Spend N31.239bn In 2024

The Federal Ministry of Sports Development has proposed to spend N31,239billion in 2024 fiscal year.

This was contained in the N28.7 trillion 2024 appropriation bill passed by the National Assembly and signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday.

The breakdown of the budget shows that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will spend a paltry N1,55billion, Nigeria Institute of Sports (NIS) has N1,15billion, while the Ministry headquarters has N28,53billion to spend in the 2024 fiscal year.

In the 2024 budget, the total personnel cost of the Sports Development Ministry is N3,235billion,

N7,99billion was earmarked for the overhead cost while N20,004billion was budgeted for capital projects.

Further breakdown shows that the ministry’s headquarters will spend a whopping N10.959billion and N19,57billion on recurrent and capital expenditures respectively.

Nigeria Football Federation has N1.42billion and N127,53million for recurrent and capital expenditure, just as N849.035 million and N303,84 million were earmarked for recurrent expenditure and capital projects in the Nigeria Institute of Sports.

A further scrutinizing of the budget revealed that a whopping N9m was earmarked for the renovation of the Sports Minister’s offices and installation of air-conditioners in 2024.
