Solomon ‘Slesh’ Eshegbe a.k.a ‘Big Slesh’ has urged Nigerian youths to go beyond social media revolution and paper politics and take up political roles if they want to effect lasting and real change in Nigeria.
He said the youths must get their permanent voters cards (PVCs) or belong to political parties as card carrying members so they can participate in “grassroots politics” in their respective wards and states.
“To deal with various problems arising daily in Nigeria, we need a framework of community engagement that can only be achieved when retail politicking is started from the grassroots. And the first step is acquiring the permanent buyers card (PVC). If you take this framework to the grassroots level, many of the problems we have in Nigeria today are surmountable,” Big Slesh said.
Eshegbe ‘Big Slesh’ Solomon, who is a singer, rapper, entrepreneur and philanthropist says, “that the youth have to play retail politics in order to really connect themselves beyond just writing 140 letter words on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook. “I urge all of us to register and get the permanent voters card or try and belong to a political party.”
He stated that the 2023 general elections will be a pivotal moment for the youths in Nigerian politics.
Speaking from his base in Capetown, he said “If we want to make a difference, the youths cannot just be agitating for change on social media alone. Real change can only come when they become intentional by becoming card carrying party members. They have to be on the ground, they have to be in their wards, in the constituencies.”
Slesh continued, that the only way to make sure the youths are duly represented in the various arms of government where decisions are made, is to go into proper party politics or by seeking elective positions in government.
Mr. Eshegbe pointed out that the rate of insecurity and rising prices of fuel and foodstuff should serve as a catalyst to propel everyone who is eligible to vote to procure their PVC.
