Nguru CMD Assures Improved Health Care Delivery

The chief medical director (CMD) of the Federal Medical Centre, Nguru in Yobe State, Prof. Hadiza Usman, has pledged to enhance the centre’s standards for improved healthcare delivery in Yobe State.

In a statement signed by the media relations officer, Musa Adam, said under her transformational leadership “FMC Nguru received accreditation from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), leading to the establishment of the College of Nursing Sciences in 2022 for training Nurses and Midwives.”

Usman who is a professor of Gynaecological Oncology and Reproductive Health, has ensured that the centre also received approval from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to offer National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in Nursing.

The statement added that the stride will help to address the challenge of health workers and contribute significantly to quality healthcare delivery not only in the Zone but the Nation at large.

“Within a year of assuming office as CMD, Prof Usman has carried out renovation projects on the Doctors’ Quarters, Obstetrics and Gynaecology ward, labour ward, Obstetrics theatre, perimeter fence, security post, Pharmacy Complex Phase 1, motorcycle and staff car parks. Additionally, a solar inverter was installed at the Family Medicine Department and the Administrative block, ensuring 24/7 power supply.

“Other ongoing projects in the Centre include the renovation of the mortuary, extension of the ICT unit, hospital direction, and accreditation of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department for fellowship training, addressing the training needs and personnel.

“Further developments include administrative block phase 2, store complex, specialty clinic, the trauma centre, among others.”

The statement reads in part: “The Federal Medical Centre, Nguru, commissioned on 13th December 2012, with over 400-bed capacity spread across 25 Clinical wards, serves all 17 Local Government Areas of Yobe State, 9 Local Government Areas of Jigawa State, parts of Bauchi and Gombe States, and numerous patients from neighboring Niger Republic.

“The federal government also handed over the world-class 120-bed Muhammad Buhari Mother and Child Hospital Gashua, facilitated by the former Senate President, Senator Dr. Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan.”

Usman, however, called on philanthropists to join hands with her to reduce the disease burden in the region.
