2024 Harmonised LGAs’ Budget Passes Second Reading At Yobe Assembly

The harmonised 2024 local government councils budget has passed second reading at the floor of the Yobe State House of Assembly and committed to committee level for further legislative actions before passage.

The house joint committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and that of Finance and Appropriation, have on their side commenced the budget hearings on the Harmonised 17 local government councils fiscal budget for the year 2024.

The speaker of the house Hon Chiroma Buba Mashio, represented by his deputy, Hon Ya’u Usman Dachia, has while declaring the budget hearing ooen said that the local government budget process must be participatory to enhance the essence of inclusive and responsive decision-making at the local level.

He further said the house remained committed to fostering transparency, accountability and collective approach in the management and allocation of public resources at the local levels.

Also, the chairman House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Hon. Mohammed Ali, while speaking during the opening ceremony said the exercise was part of the duty and responsibility of the legislature so as to appropriate funds that will finance capital and recurrent expenditures of the local government councils.

He restated the commitments of members towards working on the harmonised 17 local government appropriation and finance bills 2024 for onward passage by the house.

Also, the commissioner Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Jajere, represented by the permanent secretary, Alhaji Umar Aji Suleiman said the draft of the budget of  the 17 Local Government was submitted to the house for scrutiny and possible passage after following laid down rules and regulations governing the process.

“The documents were finalized and presented to the house for  consideration after effective scrutiny by the officials of the 17 local governments and that of the ministry for adherence to due process, .

“In formulating the budget, the integrated budgeting Accounting Classification and Reporting System was used to conform with the reform effort following the well cherished provision of National Chart of Account and International Public Sector Accounting Standard (IPSAS).

“The initiative is intended to make the proposed budget of the 17 LGCs as well as subsequent years ahead to conform with International best practice as well as to comply with the provision of Yobe State Public Finance Law 2020.”
