The Police Service Commission (PSC) has said that since the recruitment exercise commenced on Jan. 8, it has screened no fewer than 136,177 applicants for constable positions.

The commission’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Ikechukwu Ani, revealed in a statement on Tuesday that details of 108,768 of those screened have been uploaded.

He added that the delay for the upload of details of the remaining was due to network challenges.

Ani said that the Police Recruitment Board, acting on behalf of the PSC, is presently screening 416,270 Nigerian youths seeking a career in the Nigeria Police Force.

The screening, according to Ani, involved physical and credentials screening, leading to an aptitude test and other subsequent processes, including medical examination.

He noted that the ongoing recruitment exercise has seen the commission upgrade and automate its processes to enhance credibility and establish a measurable standard for the final selection of successful candidates.

Real-time uploading of screening results to the commission’s portal is monitored by a Situation Room led by the Commission’s Chairman, Mr Solomon Arase, a retired Inspector-General of Police.

Despite acknowledging successes, Arase expressed concern about candidates who, despite possessing impressive Senior Secondary School Certificates (SSCE) and National Examination Council Certificates, are unable to write their names or introduce themselves.

He noted that the upcoming aptitude tests aim to filter out obviously unqualified candidates and reduce the number appearing for subsequent screening.
