North East Development Commission (NEDC) has donated 202 variety of working equipment to the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Maiduguri Zonal Network Centre.
While donating the equipment to the zonal director NTA Maiduguri Network Centre at the NEDC headquarters in Borno State, Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar, the commission’s managing director and chief executive officer (MD/CEO), Dr. Mohammed Alkali, said even though the NEDC is an intervention agency, its intervention is not only on humanitarian activities, but also to build the capacity of institutions in the North-East.
He said NTA being one of the major federal government’s parastatals dealing with the media, NEDC’s role would be to see that the Network Centre performs well not only in disseminating information of what is happening in the North-East and the country, but to the outside world.
He described NTA as a critical partner in the war against insurgency in the northeast having been keeping citizens abreast of the various government activities and the counter-insurgency operations in the North-East region.
He said, “The equipment donated include Sony video camera; ideal field reprinting bundle, reporter hand held microphone for interview and broadcast: desk link for studio system, deep circle batteries for UPS attached to the transmission; all- in – one ( integrated solar street light) with 18v/ 100w , and high efficiency monocrystaline solar panels among others.”
In his response, Abubakar on behalf of the director general NTA, expressed gratitude to the NEDC for the gesture.
He assured the host community and the NEDC that the NTA Maiduguri Network Centre would continue to do more through reportage and programmes on the dangers of insurgency, recalling that despite threats and even killing of an NTA staff by the Boko Haram terrorists, the station had remained open reporting occurrences to the general audience.
