The students body also urged the government to provide support and guidance for individuals who may be affected by the recent developments.

In a press statement by Gundu Mimidoo Joy, the public relations officer, of the body, NANS acknowledged the decisive efforts made by the government to safeguard the sanctity of academic qualifications and ensure that students who acquire degrees abroad adhere to established standards.

It said, “This commendable action is pivotal in preserving the value of legitimate degrees attained by Nigerian students who enroll in esteemed institutions.

“While we commend the government’s commitment to upholding academic integrity, the recent decision to suspend the accreditation of degree certificates from countries including Uganda, Kenya, and Niger Republic has prompted concern and reflection within the Nigerian student community.

“This measure, while intending to curb the proliferation of counterfeit degrees, raises pertinent questions about its potential impact on Nigerian students who have obtained degrees from reputable institutions in the affected countries.

“It is our fervent belief that prioritising the enhancement of learning facilities and educational standards will not only empower students but also eliminate the need for some to seek education abroad due to deficiencies within the Nigerian educational system.

“In light of this, we appeal to the esteemed Minister of Education and authorities to consider and address the concerns raised by the Nigerian student community, and to provide support and guidance for individuals who may be affected by the recent developments.”
