A group, Progressive Students Movement (PSM), has protested the replacement of Olujobi Ezekiel Fayoyin by the Ogun State chapter of the New Nigerian People Party (NNPP) as its governorship candidate, describing it as an injustice.
Addressing reporters during the solidarity protest at the national party secretariat, Abuja at the weekend, president of the group, Okereafor Bestman, said Mr Fayoyin was known to be the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the state but was substituted with another name.
Okereafor called on leadership of the party to do the needful as the forthcoming general elections won’t be business as usual, adding the youth would be the major determinants.
“We are in Abuja today basically to register solidarity with one of us, Olujobi Ezikiel Fayoyi, a 35 year old who was shortchanged by the NNPP in Ogun State. He was supposed to be the gubernatorial candidate but was shortchanged by an older person.
“We as progressive inclined persons, Nigerian youths felt it is injustice on our part and not from a party which is claiming to have the love of Nigerians at heart and we believe the party would have done well by considering this young person for us to know our capacity in 2023.
“We saw on media and lots of his consultations from one place to another as the gubernatorial in Ogun State and that the party secretariat recognised him in Ogun State, but only for us to see it in the media that his name had been replaced in INEC by someone else. And we suspect foul play at their national secretariat and believe the national secretariat would do well by retracing their steps in the best interest of Nigerian youths.
