Nasarawa Gov Denies Link To PDP Protesters’ Arrest

Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has said he has no hand in the travails of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supporters arrested and detained by the police during the recent protest in Lafia, the state capital.

About 38 supporters of the party were arrested during the protest over the outcome of the recent Supreme Court judgement which affirmed the election of Governor Sule.

Reports quoted the PDP chairman in the state, Mr. Francis Orogu, as accusing the governor of being behind the arrest and detention of the protesters.

However, in a statement, the senior special assistant to the governor on public affairs, Mr. Peter Ahemba, said the PDP chairman had not recovered from the shock of the party’s defeat at the Supreme Court and couldn’t “think straight”.

He said the PDP chairman’s allegation despite the clarification by the police that the protesters’ action was in violation of the peace deal signed by leaders of the APC and PDP smacked of mischief.

He said it was unfortunate that Mr.Orogu, “whose desperation for power put the protesters in trouble” would turn round to accuse the governor of a matter that is strictly within the purview of the law.

He cautioned the opposition party leadership of dragging the governor into a crisis it created for its own selfish interest.

“We demand an unreserved apology from the state PDP chairman for his serial false allegations against His Excellency and the government of Nasarawa State,” he said.
