Rev. Caleb Ma’aji has emerged the new chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Kaduna State.
The new chairman who is of the TEKAN/ECWA bloc takes over from Rev John Joseph Hayab whom he also worked with as the secretary of state chapter of the association.
Speaking on the election that produced Rev. Ma’aji as CAN chairman, Hayab disclosed that five others from the bloc including Rev. Ma’aji applied to be chairman, after which the bloc leadership of TEKAN/ECWA that the chairmanship position has been zoned to in the principles of fairness screened and recommended Rev. Ma’aji who eventually got elected unopposed.
Apostle Emmanuel Bako Eggo from the CPFN/PFN bloc emerged as vice chairman while Superior Evangelist Emmanuel Okunola from the OAIC bloc is the new secretary.
Others are Bro. Emmanuel Zwahu from the Catholic bloc as assistant secretary, Venerable Moses Opadokun from the CCN bloc is the treasurer.
Rev. Hayab who expressed happiness with the smooth and peaceful conduct of the election and confidence that the new chairman will build on the legacies in place disclosed that the election was supervised by the CAN general secretary Apostle Samson A. Fatokun and the assistant secretary, Rev. Uzoaku Juliana Williams.
According to Hayab, the new chairman will serve a single term of five years as enshrined in the constitution while expressing his readiness to always provide needed guidance in any way possible.
“CAN is a religious body for Christians and not a political party, so whether you are in power or not you are still a Christian, we will therefore continue to render our support for the success of the association ” he stressed.
On his part, Ma’aji commended the leadership of his bloc for the confidence reposed in him, assuring that he will do his best God helping him to build on the legacies of past chairmen particularly his immediate predecessor.
“I will run an open door policy and carry all along like it has always been in providing the needed voice for the Christians in Kaduna State and beyond. I however solicit for your support and prayers.
“Above all, I give God all the glory for the opportunity to serve in yet another leadership position, and I know the same God will give me the grace to succeed accordingly,” he prayed.
