50 Federal Varsity Lafia Students Get First Class

A total of 50 students of the Federal University of Lafia in Nasarawa State would be awarded first class honours during the combined convocation slated for Saturday.

This was disclosed by the vice chancellor of the university, Professor Shehu Abdulraman, during a pre- convocation press briefing in Lafia, yesterday.

He said a total of 6, 499 graduates covering three sets of the university will be awarded degrees during the combined 6th, 7th and 8th convocation ceremonies and the investiture of the institution’s chancellor, His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr) Abubakar Isa Ahmadu, the Emir of Mubi, Adamawa State,

According to him, the convocation activities commenced with a special Sunday and Juma’at prayers on Sunday, February 4 and Friday February 9, 2024, respectively, while convocation lecture will take place at 2:00 p.m. at the Mallam Adamu Adamu Office and Lecture Complex, Permanent Site Campus, Lafia, on Friday, February 9, 2024.

He said the lecture, which is titled: “Health, Economics and the Transit Status of Nigeria in the Global Narcotics Trade” will be chaired by Prof. Yakubu Ochefu, the secretary-general, Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU), and delivered by Brig-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa, the chairman/chief executive officer, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)

“The award of first degrees, Post-Graduate Degrees, Diplomas and Prizes will hold at 10:00 a.m. in the Convocation Arena, Federal University of Lafia, Permanent Site Campus, Makurdi Road, Lafia, on Saturday, February 10, 2024,” he explained.

He said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be the special guest of honour, while Governor Abdullahi Sule, and Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad I, the Emir of Lafia and Chairman, Nasarawa State Council of Chiefs, will be the royal father of the day.

The vice chancellor explained that the institution under his leadership has made remarkable achievements in the last three years.

On the security situation around the institution, he said the management is working hard to partner with critical stakeholders including heads of security agencies in the state, chiefs and leaders of host communities to secure the school.
