University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), has maintained the position of 7th best University in Nigeria after last year’s ranking by Times Higher Education Sub-Saharan African University rankings as seventh best, a feat management of the institution claimed was not attained on a platter of gold.

Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Augustine Angba made the remark during the 8th and 9th matriculation ceremony of the institution held yesterday in Calabar.

Angba stated that the institution under his watch has experienced tremendous turnaround which culminated in the recent ranking as 7th Best in Nigeria by Times Higher Education Sub-Saharan African University Rankings.

“This is as a result of the hard work and commitment of the management and staff.

“Thus, it is imperative that you apply yourself to your studies as that is your gateway to get the most out of our university.

“You have been told in your orientation that you would be tasked with having at least 70 per cent attendance in all your lectures to be qualified to write exams.

“The import of this is that the rules of the university do not tolerate absenteeism on the part of students”, The vice chancellor warned.

He said the management has put in place a machinery to ensure that hardworking and well-behaved and deserving students get rewarded.

He warned freshers against involving themselves in cultism, and other deviant behaviors as management would not hesitate to apply the law against those who constitute themselves as miscreants.
