Following the death of its Group Managing Director and Chief Executive, Herbert Wigwe, in a helicopter crash, Access Corporation has said it was working with the United States authorities to get updates on the Friday’s accident.

This is as condolence messages have begun to pour in over the death of Wigwe, his wife, son, and group chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group), Abimbola Ogunbanjo,

In a statement by the financial conglomerate in the early hours of Sunday, the bank said: “We have received numerous inquiries concerning an airplane crash in the USA. Presently, we lack specific information; however, we are actively collaborating with US authorities who will furnish updates. Your understanding and support are valued, and we commit to keeping you informed promptly as we receive updates on the situation.”

Meanwhile condolence messages have started pouring in for the late banking guru, whose death has thrown the nation’s banking industry into mourning.

Nigeria’s former Minister of Finance and Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, in a post on her X handle (formerly Twitter) said: “terribly saddened by the news of the terrible loss of Herbert Wigwe, Group CEO Access Bank @HerbertOWigwe, his wife and son as well as Bimbo Ogunbanjo in a helicopter crash.

LEADERSHIP reports that Wigwe, his wife and two children were in the helicopter when it crashed in California near the Nevada border, as well as Ogunbanjo.
