Former Enugu State governor, Okwesilieze Nwodo, has been appointed to lead the national burial committee for ex-Anambra State governor, Chukwuemeka Ezeife.
Ezeife passed away at the Federal Medical Centre, Abuja, on December 14, 2023, at the age of 86 years.
During the formal inauguration of the committee in Abuja, deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, urged the Nwodo-led committee to ensure a dignified farewell for the late Ezeife, assuring them of support from the National Assembly.
“We, the members of the National Assembly, pledge our solidarity to this committee. Whenever you require assistance, count on us. Ezeife was a remarkable figure who advocated for peace and unity in the South East. His burial will underscore the unity of the Igbo people,” he said.
Head of Secretariat of the National Burial Committee, Ifedi Okwenna, revealed that the committee comprises former governors, legislators, business leaders and elder statesmen from various social and cultural backgrounds, reflecting Ezeife’s inclusive approach to life.
Nwodo expressed determination to uphold Ezeife’s legacy, stating that “We are committed to delivering a message of unity and pride for the Igbo people through this burial.”
