Labour Party senatorial candidate and member representing Akamkpa/Biase federal constituency, Hon Daniel Asuquo, has faulted the delegate election system for producing candidates, saying it serves the interest of a cabal and not the people.

Asuquo who contested the PDP governorship primaries in Cross River  State but lost to Senator Sandy Onor in the governorship primaries, said the indirect primaries system does not represent the wish of the people.

Asuquo made the remarks while answering questions from LEADERSHIP correspondent shortly after receiving the award of honour as one of the best cocoa producers in the state by the State branch of Cocoa Association of Nigeria (CAN) yesterday in Ikom LGA of Cross River State.

“Delegate elections do not represent the true wish of the people. It represents the wish of Cabals. Unlike the general elections which represent the wishes of the people,” he said.

On why he was given the award of honour Asuquo stated that it was based on his engagement in cocoa trade and activities in the state.

The lawmaker who is known to have large hectares of cocoa plantations and Production in the  state said, “I have created employment opportunities for youths through my cocoa farms in the last 15years. I have developed that system. It will grow and certainly expand.

“Through that farm many young men have been taken off the streets. Let’s all of us begin to think on how to give back to the system and indeed the society and not only take from the society.

The former PDP member castigated the APC and the PDP for failing to keep to their promises.

“I am a very practical person who wants to change the narratives by running elections for the governorship position, unfortunately things couldn’t go well.

“I accept the ideology of the Labour Party. I accept that the narratives need to be changed we need to be re-educated.
