Properties worth millions of naira were destroyed on Wednesday night as fire razed no fewer than 20 units of makeshift houses in the Elekahia area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital.
The fire incident occurred along Ilo Street, behind the Elekahia Divisional Police headquarters.
Eyewitnesses told LEADERSHIP that the fire, which started around a few minutes past 11pm, was caused by a gas leakage.
However, there waa no any casualty during the incident as most residents were still outside celebrating Valentine’s Day when the inferno started.
It took the brave efforts of nearby neighbours to put out the fire as the different fire service stations called failed to report to the scene.
