Coast Guards Seek Volunteers To Curb Insecurity In Akwa Ibom

Nigerian Coast Guard (NCG) has solicited for volunteers to join the fight against economic saboteurs orchestrating insecurity on the coastal waters of Nigeria.

In an interview with journalists in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital yesterday, national director, Mr Sekenimde Sunday, said the call was prompted by the need to curb illicit and unwholesome maritime businesses threatening the diversification into blue economy.

He said: “By this, we are informing individuals, organisations and the general public, who are interested, and all those that have been volunteering their services for the security of the waterways, coastal and marine communities in Nigeria.

“The Federal Government through the Ministry of Transport, Marine and Blue Economy has approved the mobilisation of individuals.

“The National Directorate of the organization assured groups and those presently engaged or interested in coastal security, participating in activities aimed at complementing the effort of other designated security formations of the government security of coastal communities and internal waterways in Nigeria are eligible for recruitment into the Nigerian Coast Guard. Therefore, on this note, all such individuals, groups and organizations are directed to contact the National Director of the Provisional Operation Nigerian Coast Guards.”
