Providing job opportunities for Nigerian youths has been identified as a major solution to the security challenges in the country, particularly in Katsina State, the coordinator of the Adolescent Girls Initiative Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), Mustapha Shehu has said.

While opposing the call for self-defence against bandits’ attacks, he said, “Gun can only protect you, only if the number of ammunition in it is active and the number of attacks they will bring to you, once they got finished, it becomes an insignificant tool in your hand.

“But if you assist the youths with job opportunities, you don’t need to buy guns for self-defence, because they will be the ones to defend you and your community,” he said.

The AGILE coordinator spoke at the Kakaki 2024 calibre award to 30 selected individual residents of the state for their outstanding performance in contributing to the development and growth of the state.

He therefore stressed the need for all hands to be on deck to address the multiple challenges facing the state irrespective of their differences, urging the youth to have a change of attitudes and plant economic trees to solve the effect of climate change.
