Minister of science, technology, and innovation, Uche Nnaji, has inaugurated an analytical laboratory at the Federal Institute of Industrial Research, North-East zonal office for scientific conservation of food for export.
Speaking for the minister in Yola, the Adamawa State capital yesterday, the permanent secretary, Mrs Esuabana Asanye, said the ministry is targeting developing the economy through science and technology for the prosperity of the region.
The new office will develop technologies that promote entrepreneurship in the zone.
The minister said the institute would help to boost farming and fishing as well as small and medium-scale enterprises to move the region forward.
Nnaji said the ministry needs land at the Modibbo Adama University Yola to build a museum.
In her remarks, the institute’s director-general, Dr Jummai Adamu, said the organisation provides a platform for people to excel through the transfer of innovative skills for job creation.
Earlier, the state deputy governor, Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta, restated the state government’s commitment to providing enabling environment for a technologically driven society.
Farauta said the government had invested hugely in scholarship awards to students in tertiary institutions to study science courses abroad.
