Kiyawa said, “On 25th February, 2024 at about 1330hrs (01:30pm), Mohammed Rabiu, ‘m’, of Sheka Dandurumi Quarters, Kano, lodged a complaint to the police in Sheka Division, Kano against one Abba Muhammed who conspired with his gang members and jointly beat him up and left him with life-threatening injuries on his body.

“On receipt of the complaint, a team of police officers was dispatched to dislodge the group and effect the arrest of the suspects. Unfortunately, the brigands launched hostility against the police team and attacked them by pelting stones and other dangerous weapons to prevent the principal suspects from arrest.

“In a quick response and to prevent the situation from escalating into mass violent actions, the police used tear gas, manoeuvred tactfully, dispersed the crowd and restored orderliness.
“Amid the chaos, one Ismail Yunusa, aged 25 years, ‘m’, was caught up as he was allegedly struck by the effects of the tear gas canister and became incapacitated. He was rushed to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment.

“The Kano Police Command is deeply saddened by the loss of life during this unfortunate incident and expresses its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased as discreet investigation has commenced.
