Gunmen Kill Nasarawa Village Head, 28 Others

Members of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly yesterday listened to a gory detail on how a militia group killed the village head of Katakpa in Toto local government area of Nasarawa State, Mr Abdullahi Sadiq and 28 others in the February 25 attack on the community.
A lawmaker, Hon Ibrahim Abdullahi Sa‘ad (PDP- Umaisha/Ugya) told the House that 17 members of a family were killed in the recent attack, the fourth in the series of onslaught on the community.
He also revealed during the plenary that 11 members of another family were wiped out in the attack.

“Mr. Speaker and Hon colleagues, I am devastated with a heavy heart over the incidence of hoodlums attack in Katakpa community.
“Because of the attack last month, His Excellency called for stakeholders security meeting and we reached agreement.
“Again, on Sunday, 25th February, 2024, the same hoodlums came as early as 6 am to attack my people of Katakpa community.
“They burnt houses, destroyed properties, killing many people,” he disclosed.
He said those who sustained injuries during the recent mayhem were receiving medical attention in various facilities in Nasarawa and Keffi local government areas of the state.

He urged the House to impress upon Governor Abdullahi Sule to influence the establishment of a military base in the area to counter further attacks.
Speaking on the development, the speaker, Danladi Jatau, sympathized with the people of Katakpa ward and Toto local government area over the loss of lives and properties as a result of militia attack in the area.
The speaker called on the people of the area to embrace peace and sheath their swords at all times.

“We must live in peace with one another as peace is paramount.
“His Excellency, Governor Abdullahi Sule is doing his best to ensure that peace reign in the state,” he said.
The speaker also urged Sule to deploy security agencies to Katakpa community in order to maintain law and order.
Our resolution is to the effect that we urge the state government to direct security agencies to deploy their men to Katakpa and to set up a military base in Katakpa community to maintain peace and order.
