Super Falcons head coach, Randy Waldrum has revealed the reason behind his decision to bench Asisat Oshoala in Monday’s 2024 Olympic Games qualifier against the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon.
The reigning African women’s Player of the Year was expected to start the game but Waldrum instead named Tenerife star Esther Okoronkwo in the starting line-up.

Okoronkwo justified the gaffer’s faith by netting the winning goal in the 14th minute.
Oshoala later replaced the forward in the second half.
When queried on his decision after the game, Waldrum said he named the best line-up for the game.

“I think we put out what we thought was the best eleven for the day to start the match. But we are fully confident in every player, we had some players that didn’t get minutes but are fully capable of helping us,” the American stated.
