Fenerbahçe and AS Roma played out a 1-1 draw in their Champions League league-stage encounter on Thursday, with both sides forced to settle for a point after a closely contested match.
Roma took the lead in the 39th minute when Bryan Cristante found the breakthrough, giving the Italian side a 1-0 advantage heading into half-time.
Fenerbahçe responded strongly after the restart and drew level six minutes into the second half.
The Turkish side’s pressure finally paid off in the 51st minute, when Greenwood converted to make it 1-1.
The equaliser sparked an increasingly physical contest as both teams pushed for the decisive goal.
Fenerbahçe continued to threaten, with Kerem Aktürkoğlu and Mert Müldür among those involved as the hosts searched for a winner. Roma, meanwhile, remained dangerous on the counter as Cristante continued to play an influential role.
Neither side, however, could find the decisive second goal.
The final stages saw further bookings as the intensity increased, but the defences held firm to ensure the points were shared.
The 1-1 result leaves Fenerbahçe and Roma with a point apiece as they begin their Champions League league-stage campaigns.
