The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) has commenced a transformative two-day workshop aimed at dissecting the newly- forged National Occupational Standards (NOS).

These standards, hailed as indispensable by the agency, form a robust framework designed to classify and endorse skills across various learning platforms, heralding a significant stride forward for Nigeria’s automotive sector.

In his address at ongoing critique/validation workshop in Nasarawa State,  director-general of NADDC, Joseph Osanipin, underscored the pivotal role of the NOS in revolutionising Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) practices nationwide.

He emphasised NADDC’s unwavering commitment to skill development, aligning seamlessly with the overarching goals outlined in the Nigerian Automotive Industrial Development Plan (NAIDP).

Moreover, Osanipin championed the adoption of CNG/Auto Gas-Powered and Electric vehicles, extolling their potential to diminish reliance on traditional fuels and combat environmental degradation, notably greenhouse gas emissions.

He urged stakeholders, including ITF and SON, to provide invaluable feedback to ensure that the resulting validation of the framework meets stringent international benchmarks and addresses the burgeoning needs of the automotive industry.

He said with the implementation of these standards, Nigeria stands poised to streamline skill acquisition and recognition, ushering in a new era of prosperity for a diverse array of stakeholders, including out-of-school children, working adults, graduates, and apprentices.

Osanipin emphasised that by encompassing both formal and non-formal settings, the framework aims to empower individuals across the automotive value chain, propelling the nation towards sustainable growth and prosperity.
