Kaduna State governor, Uba Sani, has lamented that the present security architecture in the country is ineffective, stressing that the nation’s security institutions must be reformed to align with global best practices.
Sani suggested that to effectively tackle the mirage of security challenges facing the country, the six geopolitical zones should develop common strategies and operational plans to jointly tackle insecurity in their region.

Speaking as the chairman of the 6th annual interfaith dialogue forum peace conference held in Kaduna, yesterday, Governor Sani said, “We must carry out a complete overhaul of our security architecture. Our security institutions must be reformed to align with global best practices. The present setup is ineffective. Except security operations are decentralized, criminal elements will continue to constitute a threat in our communities. This is why we have been agitating for state police. Nigeria is a federation. A state governor should be in effective control of security in his state. A situation where a Divisional Police Officer will wait for clearance from his superiors before carrying out the instructions of the Governor is unacceptable.”

The governor continued, “The six geopolitical zones to develop Common Strategies and Operational Plans to tackle insecurity. The zones must establish Command and Control Centres to coordinate joint efforts against terrorists, bandits, kidnappers and other criminal elements in their regions.”
On his part, the secretary-general of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Prof Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, in his presentation said Nigeria is passing through trying times of hunger and starvation, abject poverty and insecurity, breakdown of law and order, dwindling morality, diminishing family values, dilapidation of infrastructures, bad governance and monumental corruption.

All these are indices of looming problems which result in societal decay and chaos.
Something urgent must be done,” JNI said.
