Jigawa Student Wins Global AI Competition In China

A level 500 student of the Department of Computer Engineering, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Abdullahi Ahmad Bello, has emerged the winner of the world students’ competition on Artificial Intelligence (AI) held in the Republic of China.

Abdullahi, who is an indigene of Babura local government area of Jigawa State had earlier emerged the winner of the regional competition held in South Africa.
Presenting the winner before Jigawa State Executive Council, the state commissioner for higher education, Dr Isa Yusuf Chamo, said Abdullahi emerged winner at the world competition which was participated in by 42 countries.

He told Governor Abdullahi Ahmad that Adam Isa Adam of Roni local government area who also participated in the competition are indigenes of the state and are the reflection of the state government’s huge investment in education.
In his comment, the governor expressed happiness for the new innovation created by the student, which made him emerge the winner at the competition.

He said the state government and the good people of the state were proud of Bello and Adam for their academic excellence.
He offered them scholarships for Masters and PhD programmes as soon as they complete their first degree.

In his remarks, Bello said some of the inventions he made included developing AI software that can detect breast cancer, a robot which can detect flood waves before they occur and AI eye glasses that can convert written script into voice, with three different languages namely: Hausa, Yoruba and English.
