The Kebbi State Government has intensified measures to prevent the spread of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), introducing screening of passengers at border areas, motor parks and other entry points into the state.
The measures were announced in a statement issued to journalists in Birnin Kebbi by the Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Health, Dr Zaki Abubakar.
Abubakar said the screening exercise was part of the government’s efforts to protect residents against the disease following reports of its resurgence in some parts of the country.
He explained that the exercise would help health officials identify suspected cases among travellers and ensure that affected persons were promptly isolated for medical attention.
“As part of the measures taken, government introduced screening of people, particularly passengers at border areas, motor parks and other entries into the state in order to protect its citizens from the scourge,” he said.
The permanent secretary added that the government was taking the necessary steps to identify suspected cases and prevent possible transmission within the state.
He urged residents travelling into or outside Kebbi to remain vigilant and pay attention to anyone showing symptoms associated with the disease.
Abubakar also called on residents to cooperate with health personnel carrying out screening and other preventive activities, stressing the importance of identifying symptoms early and reporting suspected cases to the appropriate authorities.
He said public cooperation would support the state’s efforts to prevent the spread of the disease and protect the health of residents.
