The Kwara State government has cordoned off the popular Flower Garden in Ilorin, the state capital as part of efforts to make the place a beautiful recreation centre for people of the state.
The state commissioner for environment, Mrs. Remilekun Banigbe, said the project would give a facelift to the garden as a green area for relaxation and healthy social interaction.
“This will further beautify the state, generate revenue for the government and promote work-life balance for the citizenry who can visit the garden for leisure purposes,” she said.
Banigbe said the Flower Garden landscaping and beautification was another effort of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration’s efforts to reposition Kwara as one of the states that prioritise work-life balance and social needs of their people.
The garden, which had long been a shadow of itself, will be revamped for the benefit of the people, Banigbe added, saying it would create new jobs and serve as a site for economic development.
She said a section of the garden had been designed to house a book club for children, thereby promoting reading culture among younger people in the state. She commended the governor for the huge investment in the provision of social amenities, infrastructure and other laudable programmes that have impacted on lives of the people of the state.
