The man, whose name and address remain unknown was caught in the act, he was surrounded and beaten to death by the mob who took laws into their hands before the arrival of security operatives to the scene.

LEADERSHIP reports that the mob set the suspect ablaze after beating him to death. Police personnel who later arrived at the scene evacuated the body to Toro General Hospital but was certified dead by a medical doctor.

Confirming the incident, spokesperson of the Bauchi State Police Command, Ahmed Wakil said a discreet investigation into the matter commenced to bring the perpetrators of jungle justice to book.

Wakil frowned at the action of the irate youths, who instead of taking the suspect to the nearest police station for proper investigation and prosecution, beat him to death without any recourse to the law.

He said the act is barbaric and inimical to the law governing the country and warned Bauchi citizens that the Command will not tolerate or allow some recalcitrant in the society to take laws into their hands by killing suspects.

“Nobody has the right to treat a suspect in such a barbaric manner, and it is wrong for anyone to assume the position of a law enforcement agency,” he said.
