Imo Assembly Flays Delayed Results In Tertiary Institutions

The Imo State House of Assembly has flayed tertiary institutions in the state over arbitrary delay of students’ results after graduation and called on Governor Hope Uzodinma to establish an administrative policy that would ensure prompt release of results.
The assembly reached the resolution following the adoption of the motion presented by the member representing Ezinihete constituency at the assembly, Hon Henry Agbasonu.

Presenting the motion, the lawmaker stated that non-release of results at the appropriate time has resulted in many people not maximising employment opportunities because of the non-availability of certificates to show that they really studied such courses.

The lawmaker stated that lack of immediate issuance of certificates has also delayed many students who wanted to further their studies in other institutions or desire to participate in the NYSC programme.
“Such delays have continued to prevent many of our youth from studying in such institutions either for undergraduate or postgraduate programmes and it has continued to fester corrupt tendencies where people intentionally make things difficult for others in order to rip them off,” he stated.

Agbasonu observed that secondary and primary schools were not left out of the ugly scenario as First School Leaving Certificate results are often delayed which he said could stop pupils from getting admission into secondary school.

He observed that it is often a tug of war to obtain a transcript from someone’s former institution to study in another institution as it takes years for the same to be issued.
