Ahead of the governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) scheduled for April 25, one of the aspirants, Dr Paul Akintelure, is dead..
LEADERSHIP gathered that Akintelure died a few days after raising the alarm over threats to his life.
It was learnt that Akintelure, a medical doctor from Igbotako, In Okitipupa local government area of Ondo State, died in the early hours of yesterday during a brief illness.
A family source said the politician gave up the ghost in an undisclosed hospital in Lagos.
Last week,Akintelure in a statement raised the alarm that unnamed persons were threatening his life over the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
He was the running mate to the late Oluwarotimi Akeredolu during the 2012 governorship election under the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).
Meanwhile, the family and the campaign organisation of Dr. Paul Akintelure (DPA) have confirmed the death of the politician.
The family and the campaign organisation said the late governorship aspirant died at 61 years old.
In a statement, the spokesman for the family and the campaign organisation, Oladapo Akintelure, said, “It is with deep sadness, heavy hearts, and total submission to God that we painfully announce the passing of Dr. Paul Akintelure, aged 61, who until his untimely death was a medical doctor, philanthropist, and an aspirant for the gubernatorial position of Ondo State under the All-Progressives”.
