A socio-cultural group in Yoruba land, Igbimo Asoju Yoruba, has called on the federal government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to investigate the actions of Sheikh Gumi, an Islamic cleric who has offered to negotiate with bandits, among others.

The group in a statement signed by the convener, Chief George Olufemi Ogunjimi condemned Gumi’s actions, stating that they were not in the best interest of the country.

He said Gumi’s willingness to negotiate with bandits sends the wrong message and undermines the efforts of the government and security agencies to combat insecurity in the country.

The group believes that Sheikh Gumi’s actions need to be thoroughly investigated to determine his motives and ensure that he is not aiding and abetting criminal activities.

The group also want serious actions to be taken against security officials whose lackadaisical attitude allowed the Binance officials to escape from detention and flew abroad in their bid to escape justice for the damages done to the Nigerian economy and livelihoods of many citizens.

‘We want all public and civil servants to join hands with the president in rescuing the nation’s ship from wreckage,” it said.

Advising the president to work more on security in the country with different cases of kidnapping recently recorded, the group, however, applauded Tinubu over the release of the abducted 137 Kaduna schoolchildren .
