4 Die, 5 Injured In Kwara Auto Crash

Four persons died and five others sustained injuries on Wednesday when two articulated vehicles were involved in an accident along Ilorin-Bode-Saadu road in Kwara State.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the injured persons that sustained various degrees of injury were taken to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) for treatment.

One of two trucks which was carrying fertilizer, it was gathered, collided with the other one, leading to an inferno that got them burnt.

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commisioner (FRSC) in the state, Mr Stephen Dawulung confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday.

Dawulung said that the crash occurred around 1:02 pm along Ilorin-Bode-Saadu route, resulting to an inferno that engulfed both trucks.

The statement which was signed by the Sector’s Public Education Officer, O.B. Basambo reads, “On receipt of the report of the crash around 1:09pm, FRSC Rescue operatives were immediately mobilised to the crash scene where they rescued 5 injured male adults to University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital for medical treatment.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the trucks carrying fertilizer and 8 passengers wrongfully overtook another vehicle without adequate view of the road ahead and in a bid to avoid colliding with an oncoming truck, lost control and swerved to the side thereby colliding with another truck carrying tomatoes.

“A total of Ten (10) persons were involved in the crash. Five(5) got injured while four (4) others sadly lost their lives,” the statement noted.

Basambo said the fire has so far been put out, and the obstructions cleared to allow free flow of traffic.

“The Sector Commander has since directed for a full investigations to harvest information that will guard against reoccurrence.”
