Fire Razes 14 Buildings At Idumota Market In Lagos

A fire outbreak at the popular Dosunmu Market on Lagos Island, has gutted 14 buildings.

Consequently, Lagos State government has directed that commercial activities in Dosunmu Street and its immediate environs in Lagos be suspended till further notice.

The state government commended its agencies for  containing the fire which started in the early hours of Tuesday and gutted 14 buildings.

Areas affected include Dosumu, Nnamdi Azikwe, Moshalashi, Woro Pedro, Obanikoro Streets Others are Ago Tawa, Idumagbo Avenue, Idumagbo , Ido – Oluwo and Oju Olobun Streets

In a statement signed by the special adviser to the governor on CBD,  Mrs. Bola Olumegbon Lawal, the state government lamented the incident and urged the residents to prioritise their safety.

The state government said though no casualty was recorded in the inferno, it took the decision to avert loss of life and maintain peace and order in the area.

The state government attributed the cause of the fire that engulfed a three-storey building in the Apongbon area of the state to careless handling of a generating set.

As a result of the difficulty encountered by the emergency responders, the state government stressed the need for traders in the densely populated area to make way for emergency responders to perform their duties .
