Abia First Lady, Association Partner To Reduce Child Mortality

Wife of the Abia State governor, Pricilla Otti and the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas have partnered to reduce child mortality rate in the state.

The partnership involves providing medical services and training as well as equipping of health professionals with the necessary skills and equipment to enhance newborn survival rate.

At a training session organised by the state government for the health workers in Umuahia, the state capital, Mrs Otti said this had become necessary to enable them deliver quality services and pledged the commitment of her office to promote efficient healthcare in the state.

“Let me also assure you of the commitment of the Governor Alex Otti administration to revitalising the health sector and making quality healthcare accessible to every resident,” she said.

In her address, the president of the association, Chinyere Anyaogu, said the training themed, “Helping Babies Survive” was aimed at improving newborn care and reducing neonatal mortality rates.

She said the training focused on equipping the participants with essential skills for neonatal resuscitation and how to care for newborns facing respiratory challenges at birth.

Contributing, the commissioner for Health, Ngozi Okoronkwo, appreciated the association for collaborating with the administration on its efforts to improve the sector.

In her response, a participant, Chinatu Uchechukwu, thanked the association, Mrs Otti and the government for the training, assuring that they would put the knowledge gained to practice.
