Leaders, elders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State have expressed confidence in the ability of the senate president, Godswill Akpabio, to effectively reorganise and reposition the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group, under the aegis of the Forum of APC Chapter Chairmen (ACC) during a meeting at the weekend in Uyo, the state capital, resolved to pass a vote of confidence on him as the grand leader, explaining that “the decision followed Senator Akpabio’s uncommon leadership strides he has continued to demonstrate and sustain over time as the chairman of the National Assembly.”
Chairman and convener of the meeting, Elder Ntiedo Usoro, rallied party stakeholders to show more than a passing interest in the affairs of APC in the state in order to rebuild the party around the senate president as the leader.
“It is no longer news that when the righteous is on the throne, the people rejoice (Proverbs 29: 2). The biblical reference depicts the senate president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he noted.
The forum in a motion moved by the chapter chairman of Ibiono Ibom local government area, Hon Umoh Ekpo, and seconded by his Mkpat Enin LGA counterpart, Hon Utitofon Jeremiah, unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the senate president.
The chairman of the forum, Elder Usoro, thanked members for their commitment and appreciated the senior special assistant (SSA) to the senate president on Political Matters, Hon Aniekan Abraham, for hosting members of the forum, describing him as “the umbilical cord that links the party seamlessly with the political class.”
He urged other appointees and elected officers of the party to borrow a leaf from the SSA.
In his remarks, Hon Abraham thanked the chapter heads for their steadfastness against the challenges the party had faced in the past, describing them “as real foot soldiers of the party”, and pledged to work with the forum at all times.
He, therefore, charged the chairmen to work towards uniting members for the good of party. He also spoke on the importance of the National Identity Number (NIN) registration, and charged the chairmen to mobilise their members across the state to enroll in the forthcoming national electronic registration and revalidation of membership exercise of the party.
