Gombe State government has introduced a monthly mandatory general sanitation exercise as a deliberate effort to ensure sustainable and healthy environment for human habitation across the state.
This was contained in a memo conveying Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s approval of last Saturday of every month as General Environmental Sanitation Day, starting from this month.

The memo, signed by the commissioner for Water, Environment and Forest Resources, Mohammed Sa’idu Fawu, stated that the exercise will be conducted between 8:00 am and 10:00am during which restriction of movements of all kinds will be enforced except for persons on essential services.

The memo reads in part, “In line with this administration’s resolve to ensure provision of sustainable and healthy environment for human habitation, His Excellency Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya CON (Dan Majen Gombe), the governor of Gombe State, has approved the conduct of monthly general environmental sanitation exercise in the state to be observed by the general public on last Saturday of every month. The exercise is to be conducted from 8:00 am -10:00am.

“Based on the above, there will be restriction of movements during the period (except those on essential services). Also, all MDAs and the general public are hereby directed to comply strictly with the directive as team of officials from the Ministry of Water, Environment and Forest Resources as well as the Gombe State Environmental Sanitation and Protection Agency (GOSEPA) will monitor strict compliance with the directive, please.”
