The state commissioner for works, Engr Mohammed Bappa, disclosed this to newsmen after the state executive council meeting on Wednesday.

He said the approved projects are the expansion of the road from Ture to Dogon Ruwa and Gelangu towns in Balanga local government area covering 23 kilometres.

The commissioner said the project was awarded by a previous administration in the state in 2013 but was abandoned by the contractors due to non-payment of funds.

The present administration, he said decided to take over the project adding that it already invited the contractors and they agreed to execute it at N2.1 billion.

The commissioner stated that the other road approved by the executive council was the one linking Garin Kuka, Kan Kura and other villages together with a length of 10.9 kilometers saying it would be constructed at the sum of N2.6 billion.

“The two roads will cost N4.7 billion and the council approved immediate commencement of the two projects because of their importance,” he said.

Apart from the two roads, Bappa also revealed that the governor ordered the immediate repair of some highways in the state that were washed out by floods in this rainy season.

He said the highways which connect towns in the state such as Gombe to Hashidu, Gombe to Malala, Bajoga to Ashaka and Kanawa to Kumo were all broken away by floods.

The commissioner said the damages on the roads have been assessed and that they would be rehabilitated soon.
