State House Press Corps (SHPC) is organising a two-day capacity-building workshop for its members in Lagos.
The workshop, held in collaboration with the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), will focus on the theme „Promoting Solutions-oriented & Sustainability Journalism in a Modern Democracy“.
The event, taking place on Friday and Saturday, will bring together journalists from print, broadcast and online media representing outlets across Nigeria.
The keynote address will be delivered by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.
Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who is hosting the event, will also give a speech. Dele Alake, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, will provide a goodwill message.
Other speakers include Ahmed Abubakar, the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), who will discuss the relationship between intelligence agencies and the media.
The director of the International Press Centre (IPC), Lanre Arogundade, will speak about ethical journalism and fact-checking in the age of deepfakes.
Academics and UN officials will also deliver presentations on topics such as advancing sustainable development through journalism and ensuring information integrity in the digital media landscape.
The chairman of the SHPC, Anule Emmanuel, said the training would help members of the elite press corps enhance their knowledge, skills and competencies.
