Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, the champion of Big Brother Naija Season 7, has turned down a N13 million settlement from Quidax, a sponsor of the reality show.

Phyna’s refusal comes amid ongoing disputes over unfulfilled prize commitments from her 2022 victory.

Reports indicate that Phyna has been vocal in calling out both the organisers of the show and their sponsors for not delivering on the promised prizes.

Quidax initially committed to awarding her 1 Bitcoin (BTC) as part of her winning package. However, despite the lapse of two years, this pledge remains unmet.

In response to her recent public criticisms, representatives from Quidax approached the reality star with an alternative offer of N13 million, claiming it reflected the value of 1 BTC back in 2022.

Phyna however rejected the offer, citing significant appreciation in Bitcoin’s value, which now exceeds N90 million.

In a video message disseminated through her social media channels, Phyna articulated her insistence on receiving the originally promised 1 BTC and a trip-for-two to the Maldives—a stark contrast to alternative destinations like Kenya or Morocco offered by the sponsors.

“I am standing on my Maldives trip for two. So I’m waiting to get my tickets for Maldives. You can’t give me Kenya or Morocco as options to pick from. I can fund my trip if I want to go to Kenya or Morocco,” Phyna stated firmly.

She further explained her financial calculations and expectations:

“Also, Quidax said they will give me N13m; the rate of 1 BTC in 2022. Before I countered that, I reminded them that as at when I checked in November 2022, 1 BTC was N22m but they insisted that it was N13.8m.

Phyna added, “So I referred to my Google and it showed me that 1 BTC was about N19m in November 2022. If Quidax had given me my 1 BTC in 2022, today I will be having about N96 million sitting in wallet. Now you are telling me that you are going to give me N13m, so what happens to all my lost in the past two, three years?”
