St. John Vianney Science College, Igbariam, Anambra State, has won the National Girls in ICT Competition organised by the Federal Ministry of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy.
The competition aims to foster technology innovation among girls in secondary schools across Nigeria.
The winning project, M-Tag VR, developed by Immaculate Ebube Ikegwuonu, Camilla Anyadike and Nweke-Nonso Oluchi under the guidance of their coach, John Onuigbo, allows users to explore iconic Nigerian landmarks like Zuma Rock while learning about diverse cultural aspects of Nigerian tribes.
The journey to victory began at the state level, where the team excelled in the Anambra State competition, then proceeded to the South eastern regional championship, emerging victorious over teams from Ebonyi, Imo, Abia, and Enugu to secure a spot in the national finals.
The director of St. John Vianney Science College, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma, expressed delight in the girls’ achievement, noting their exceptional project and skills that impressed judges at every stage of the competition.
Speaking on behalf of the team, Immaculate Ebube Ikegwuonu, expressed gratitude for the opportunity and thanked the school for motivating them, emphasising the desire to inspire other girls to do same.
The second and third-place positions were won by teams from Rivers and Lagos states.
