As part of efforts to ensure that the difficulty being faced by the public in accessing Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known as petrol is promptly resolved, a Coalition of Civil Society Organisations led by Citizens Rise for a United Nigeria and Coalition of Civil Society and Youth Groups in Nigeria have setup a joint task team to monitor the compliance level of distributors across the country.

The groups decision to form the monitoring team stems from their conviction that the efforts put in place by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) if complied with will result to normalcy in the distribution of the product within a few days.

In a statement signed by the Coalition Secretary, Jonathan Ochai and made available to journalists in Abuja named the duo of Amb. Solomon Adodo and Mallam Suleiman Musa as the leaders of the monitoring team.

“The past few days have been challenging to many Nigerians who daily use the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) due to the return of queues in filling stations in some states across the country. The situation was somewhat discomforting and caused some tension, especially following speculations about planned price increase.

“It is therefore very gratifying and commendable that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) moved swiftly to address the matter from its roots. In a Press Release, NNPCL has explained that the problem arose from challenges of logistics , which it has resolved. It also assured Nigerians that there is no plan to increase the price of PMS.

“We have also followed up on this statement through our team of intervention in this matter, and can now authoritatively assure Nigerians that the matter has been indeed resolved. Distribution will be seamless and the queues will soon disappear while regular and unhindered supply of products will continue.

Consequently, we are formally launching a Situation Room to monitor the progress and ensure that there is no sabotage in the distribution chain. We will be constantly be updating the public and report any distributor or marketer that is not in compliance with the clear directives of the NNPCL.

‘Nigerians deserve to be served the best and we are happy with the NNPCL for quickly rising to the occasion and addressing the problem with dispatch. We urge every Stakeholder to support the NNPCL and work together to ensure the quickest realization of the resolution that has been worked out.

“The Situation Room will be very vigilant. It is our hope that there will be full compliance so that the results will come faster than many Nigerians are expecting. It will be over soon, thanks to the diligent efforts of the NNPCL Team in tackling this fleeting challenge abruptly.

“Once again, we commend the NNPCL most sincerely for continuing to lead from the front in the oil sector with sterling reforms and a significant pricing stability mechanism. We are sure that the days ahead will bear more positive dividends for all Nigerians as the reforms are already yielding results”, the statement added.
